About Francesca

Francesca Gordon-Smith is the founder and director of Positive Voice:

"My journey of self dicovery began at the age of 8 in a Speech and Drama lesson. Within a year I had appeared in my first Speech and Drama festival and taken my first Guildhall Speech and Drama exam. I loved the creativity and emotional exploration that drama and acting involved, but when it came to performing in front of an audience, I couldn't quite get over the fear that seemed to take over MY entire being. Most of the time, I was PETRIFIED. I became very good at concealing this fact and 'acted as if' I was calm and confident. I went through 10 years of this and still reached my goal of obtaining my LAMDA (London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art) gold medal in acting- I shudder at what I went though to achieve this. Something kept me going and somehow I knew that one day the fear would dissipate, and over the years it did to some extent.

It wasn't until I started teaching lessons in public speaking (through my other company, Smiths English) that I came to realise how important it was to help people overcome this crippling fear. I noticed that for many people it had created a barrier between themselves and the successful carreer they craved for. I decided to study Neuro Linguistic Programming and Hypnotherapy in order to help others to overcome this fear. In so doing, I also overcame my own fear. My passion for public speaking continues to increase with every speaking engagement. Standing up in front of an audience has become a joy and a passion. I feel emowered by my ability to draw an audience in, connect with them and then inspire them though the clever use of my words. My aim is to give all women this self same feeling of empowerment and confidence."
